H.E.R.E. Journal is a bi-annual print magazine about the Hudson Valley — the ecology, the people, and where the two meet. Packed with in-depth stories and original photography by some of the region's best writers, thinkers, and creatives, H.E.R.E. Journal seeks to think more expansively about the history and ecology of the Hudson Valley, and to learn how we can all better take care of it.
Issue 1 opens with a question: what distinguishes this land and who are we in relation to it? Inside, the story behind Hudson River School painter Frederic Church's breathtaking views of the Catskills, the hidden world of the under river as revealed by beavers and eels, climate migrants' search for safer ground, the perennial inspiration of Shaker architecture, and much more. Contributors include Robin Wall Kimmerer, Stephen Shore, Deborah Berke, and Leila Philip, and Katie Stout.
Issue 1 is 152 pages and printed in a limited edition of 2,000 copies. Each copy includes a double-sided Eastern Bluebird Print illustrated by artist Matt Adrian and H.E.R.E. staff.
A special Collector's Edition is also available, featuring the journal wrapped in a French-fold dust jacket with a photograph by Hudson Valley artist Landon Speers. Limited edition of 100.
All proceeds from magazine sales and merchandise support resiliency efforts and grants in the region.
